Mitsouko, crafted by Jacques Guerlain in 1919, draws inspiration from the protagonist of Claude Farrčre’s novel ‘La bataille’, depicting an impossible love affair between Mitsouko, the wife of Japanese Admiral Togo, and a British officer during the 1905 war between Russia and Japan. Concealing her emotions with grace, Mitsouko awaits the return of one of the two men, uncertain of her future companion.

This enigmatic fragrance reveals its beauty selectively, with a protracted opening that unfolds like a captivating performance of exquisite notes. Certainly not intended for everyday wear, Mitsouko evokes a sense of distance upon application, gradually revealing its intensity and sensual allure. Belonging to the chypre olfactory family, it combines cool top notes with a base of oak moss, yet incorporates a juicy peach note that adds a distinct gourmand touch. Its composition includes bergamot, peach, jasmine, may rose, spices like cinnamon, oak moss, vetiver, and wood. Exuberant, refined, and balanced, Mitsouko’s elegance lies in its moderation—not too sweet or heavy.

The bottle, resembling that of Heure Bleue (1912), is often regarded as symbols of the beginning (Heure Bleue) and end (Mitsouko) of the war.
